Home » Liberia Boxing Association Prepares for Montenegro Championship
The Liberia Boxing Association (LBA) is intensifying its preparations to represent the nation at the prestigious championship in Montenegro. A 14-member team will proudly carry the Liberian flag, competing against some of the top athletes in the world.
Excitement is building within the boxing community as the LBA gears up for the highly anticipated Montenegro Championship. Set to take place in Europe, this event promises to be a significant showcase of world-class boxing talent. For Liberia, this is another opportunity to highlight its athletes on the global stage.
The team, made up of 14 dedicated athletes, is scheduled to depart Liberia for Montenegro on October 19, 2024.
Overseeing the team’s preparation, Coach Arku Kortee has expressed strong confidence in the athletes. He firmly believes that the Liberia Boxing Association has the skill and determination necessary to excel at international levels. According to Coach Kortee, the team’s hard work, discipline, and commitment to training have fully equipped them for the upcoming challenges in the ring.
This Montenegro Championship offers a rare and significant chance for Liberia to showcase its talent. Although Liberia is known for its passion for sports, few opportunities have allowed its athletes to shine in international boxing. Now, the team is determined to demonstrate its strength and put Liberia’s sporting community on the map.
However, despite thorough preparations, the road to Montenegro has not been without its challenges. Financial hurdles continue to pose significant obstacles for the LBA.
The LBA is grappling with serious financial difficulties that could jeopardize the team’s participation in the championship. Secretary General Alfred Michael Slocum and President Jonathan Wade revealed that the team requires $25,000 to cover travel, medical expenses, and food. Without these essential funds, Liberia may be forced to miss this crucial international event.
To overcome these financial barriers, the LBA has reached out to influential figures across Liberia. The association is actively seeking support from both government officials and the private sector in hopes of raising the necessary funds.
Several prominent individuals, including Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence and Speaker Jonathan Fonati Koffa, have already been approached for support. Additionally, the LBA has made a public appeal to Joseph Nyuma Boakai, the Chief Patron of Sports, urging him to help the team make it to Montenegro.
As the championship approaches, the LBA remains hopeful. However, they urgently need financial assistance to ensure the team’s participation. The association is not just focused on competing; it is determined to bring home a victory that will inspire the entire nation.
