The Reds are on the comeback and currently occupy the seventh position with 53 points less than one of the fifth-placed Spurs, but in free fall. For both, therefore, the goal now is to reach the Europa League; in fact, Manchester United’s fourth place is too far away at 60 points, with one game less than Liverpool and two less than Tottenham.

Liverpool returned to shine after yet another complicated period, which coincided with their elimination in the round of 16 of the Champions League by Real Madrid. The Reds have been on a positive streak for five days, with two draws with Arsenal and Chelsea followed by three consecutive victories against Leeds, Nottingham Forest, and West Ham. Very difficult period for Tottenham, who drew during the week in a comeback 2-2 with Manchester United after collapsing at Newcastle and being defeated 6-1, their second knockout in a row after the one with Bournemouth 3-2 at home.
